Nissim de Camondo Museum

If you want to discover the splendour and luxury of the interior of a hotel particulier on plaine Monceau (17th & 18th arrondissement), this prestigious housing estate built by the Pereire brothers during the 19th century, the Nissim de Camondo Museum is without a doubt the most beautiful and impressive one.

The collection of furniture and works of art from the 18th century is certainly a fabulous witness of the know-how back then, but the museum offers the almost unique opportunity in Paris to discover the functioning of a private house in its entirety.

As in all Parisian museums hosted in a hotel particulier (and there are a lot of them! see end of aticle), visiting the collections is also a way to wander through the rooms at the same time. But the particularity of the Nissim de Camondo museum is that all rooms, without any exception, are open to the public.

Bathrooms, kitchen, staffroom, laundry room or private apartments, it is a real immersion in the daily life of the Camondo family that offers the museum, throughout the rooms that are by the way equipped with sophisticated installations for that time.

As for the collections, they are the product of several dozens of years of buying and collectioning by Moïse de Camondo, descendant of a powerful jewish financier family. After his death, the museum was left as a tribute to his son Nissim, who was killed in action during World War I.

Lovers of the 19th century, you will discover all the art and subtlety of that time, which Moïse liked particularly: objects, paintings, tapestries, porcelain, silverware… it is an exceptional collection that fits perfectly with the hotel particulier.
