At the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Place Furstenberg is one of the most romantic squares in Paris (in addition to being the most expensive street of the capital).

Major figure of the Romantic movement, Delacroix lived many years in the « la Nouvelle-Athènes » district (9th arrondissement), “official” neighborhood of this artistic movement of the 19th century. In charge of decorating the chapel of the church Saint-Sulpice in 1847, he came to live in this apartment to be closer to it.

A CLASSICAL AND MODERN ARTIST

Known above all to be an academic artist rubbing shoulders with Parisian salons, Delacroix still remains one of the greatest painters of the 19th century by mixing classical traidtions and romantic innovations.

This is what this charming little museum offers us to discover. If the masterpieces of the painter can be seen in the greatest museums of Parisnn(Louvre, Orsay Museum, Carnavalet Museum), Delacroix Museum opens the doors of the artist intimacy, showing his daily life and artistic development brighten up with numerous sketches, studies and paintings.

Finally, another reason not to miss this museum is the beautiful garden of 400m2 hidden behind the apartment where Delacroix built his workshop. Renovated in 2012, it was reproduced according to the writings of the artist, real nature lover.
